Q. What is Pilot Proficient Online Ground Schools and training?
A. We provide online, multimedia aviation Ground Schools and training courses, both free and paid.
Q. What subject areas are covered, and do you have a course pertaining to my specific aircraft type or certificate/rating level?
A. Our current course offerings can be found on the site’s home page under “Courses”. New courses are always in development, so please subscribe to our mailing list to be notified when a new course comes out. Due to the very high workload required to produce new, high quality and accurate training material (some courses can take as much as 6 months to produce), it can take some time to see new courses arrive on the site, but we are always working!
Q. Are these online courses a substitute for instruction with my Certified Flight Instructor?
A. No. Pilot Proficient is run by qualified CFIs, and everyone involved with the site believes in the value of one-on-one, personalized and high-quality flight instruction. The training material presented on this site is designed to be an excellent supplement to your training in the airplane, self-directed study, and most importantly, dual instruction with your favorite Certified Flight Instructor; not a substitute for it. Many students learn best through an audio-video presentation, versus reading a dry textbook and hoping to absorb the presented material. It is our hope and intention that the material presented here will enhance and deepen your learning experience, in order to truly drive home the concepts and principles taught. A truly proficient pilot seeks out all available resources to become and remain a well-rounded aviator; we hope we can be one of those resources for you.
Q. What if my instructor disagrees with a point, recommendation or statement made in one of the Pilot Proficient courses?
A. That’s ok. Every CFI has a different method of teaching and communicating, and that includes variations in procedures and technique. If your CFI recommends a different technique or procedure than that proposed in one of our Ground Schools, and both are within the bounds of safety and legality (of course, we make sure to teach only material which satisfies both criteria), we recommend you go with your instructor’s preferred method. Again, Pilot Proficient is here to add to the flight training experience you enjoy with your instructor, not replace it.
Q. Will I receive a Certificate of Completion or other training record at the end of an online Ground School?
A. Yes. After satisfying the requirements of whichever Ground School or training program you have chosen to undertake, you’ll be able to print a Certificate of Completion, which will include the subject areas covered.
Q. What if I’m not satisfied with a Ground School? I’m worried about spending my money with some fly-by-night internet organization!
A. We offer a 100% money back guarantee on every course we sell. We are confident that you’ll be satisfied with the knowledge you’ll gain from every course of training we offer. However, if for some reason you are not satisfied with a Ground School and can tell us why, we will promptly issue a refund of 100% of the course price. We ask that you provide some information about your decision so that we can improve the course and prevent future dissatisfied students, not so we can find a reason to try to avoid paying a refund. Courses which result in a training record (like our RVSM course) will not be refunded once a Certificate of Completion has been printed.
Q. When I buy a course, how long will I have access to it?
A. Free courses are open indefinitely, of course. You’ll have access to any paid courses for 60 days.
Q. Do I need to download any software or apps to view the Pilot Proficient courseware?
A. No, all you need is a device with a good internet connection. The site, as well as the video presentations through Vimeo Pro, are adaptive so that they will work well on most devices. If you have trouble viewing the coursework on your phone or tablet, try again on your personal computer, which should solve most display issues.
